Want to throw an AMF benefit in your town?
Here's everything you need to know:
The Allied Music Festival
What: A series of benefit shows across the U.S. and Canada, highlighting local music, art, culture, organizing and media-making.
Why: Help cover the costs of travel, housing and registration for people coming to Detroit for the Allied Media Conference, from your community (prioritizing youth, and low-income people who would not otherwise be able to attend).
Who: Allied Media Projects (AMP)-- a network of organizations and individuals, using the power of independent media to advance a more creative, more just world.
Where: Detroit, Ann Arbor, Chicago, Bowling Green, New York City, Philadelphia, Durham, Gainsville and your town, and your town and your town...
How: with your help! Contact jenny (at) alliedmediaconference (d0t) org if you are interested in hosting the Allied Music Festival in your town, or if you want to be in contact with the folks who are already working on one in your town.
Here are some of the different strategies that worked wonders last year:
- Techno Party (Chicago): warehouse, great DJs, cash bar, stuffed animals and skateboards for auction
- Silent Art Auction (Detroit): tiny coffee shop, local artists, original artwork around the theme of "Breaking Silence, Building Movements"
- Online Donations Campaign (Women of Color Bloggers Network): donation buttons, awesome bloggers, the internet
- Punk Show (Ann Arbor): teen center, punks
That's all it takes! You raise the money and use to help get yourself and others from your community to Detroit June 20 - 22 this summer.
We will provide you with templates of promotional materials, contacts of local artists and organizations in your area who are affiliated with the AMC, suggestions for party themes, and any other support you need to make your event fabulous. Don't hesitate to reach out.
